How writers get paid
WordTipper shares revenue with the writers who matter most to your town. Here's how it works.
1
Top 3 articles get paid
Each month, the three most-loved articles in every town earn a share of that town's revenue pool.
2
#1 gets a +10% bonus
The top article in each town receives an extra 10% bonus on top of their share — a reward for exceptional local journalism.
3

Frequently asked questions
Earnings are calculated at the end of each calendar month. Once your balance is updated, you can request a withdrawal at any time. Withdrawals are processed within 3–5 working days to your registered bank account.
The minimum withdrawal amount is £5.00. This helps us keep transaction costs low so more money goes to writers.
You are responsible for declaring any income you earn through WordTipper. In the UK, you can earn up to £1,000 per tax year from miscellaneous income before you need to report it. We recommend consulting HMRC guidance or a tax adviser.
Articles are ranked by the number of hearts (likes) they receive from readers within a given month. Only hearts from verified accounts in the article's town count towards the ranking to prevent manipulation.
